After a lot of drama regarding the auction, Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi -- an unexpected buyer -- finally bought Mushfiqur Rahim's bat with which the wicketkeeper-batsman had scored the first Test double ton for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka in 2013. Afridi bought the bat for $20,000 for his foundation, informed Mushfiqur on Friday.
Mushfiqur put the bat on auction in an attempt to raise funds to support the coronavirus-affected people last week but the process had to be suspended for a while due to some fake bidding.
''I am happy that Shahid Afridi bhai brought the bat for the noble cause. He sent me an offer letter to buy it for $20,000,'' said Mushfiqur, who added that he was disappointed and could not find a reason why fake bidders tried to disrupt it.
''I just want to say, not because of me, but whenever someone tries to come up with such initiatives, even if you don't participate it's ok but don't try to disrupt it,'' said Mushfiqur, who also thanked Tamim Iqbal for helping him sell the bat to Afridi. .
Shahid Afridi Foundation was formed in 2014 by the former Pakistan cricketer to carry out philanthropic activities in Pakistan and abroad.
