Critically acclaimed stars, Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy have been roped in to play the lead roles in the upcoming biopic, Louis Wain. The film tells the story of the 19th-century English artist and his lifelong struggles. Claire Foy will be assuming the role of his wife, Emily Richardson, to whom his marriage was short-lived as she died of breast cancer. Throughout her illness, they had the company of an adopted kitten, which sparked Wain’s affinity for drawing large-eyed cats. It is said that he may have suffered from schizophrenia later in his life. Cumberbatch recently stated, “I am thrilled by the prospect of playing the courageous, playful spirit that is Louis Wain and to be producing such a special film.” Both Cumberbatch and Foy are stronger than ever from their recent success in Avengers: Endgame and First Man, respectively, and seem to be ideal for this period drama. Will Sharpe will be directing the film, in association with StudioCanal and Amazon Studios. The shooting for the film will begin on August 10, 2019.
