Debunking the excuses behind rejections

A simple "sorry" is never enough when someone is being rejected. The question "Why not?" will always linger in the heads of the ones at the receiving end of the rejection. And if the person in question is you, in order to set your sorry soul free, they need to come up with a good enough reason.

But do they really mean it?

YOU'LL FIND SOMEONE BETTER

That's what they all say. Little do they know, that they were supposed to be that "better" one after you were asked to move on again and again and again by your other interests. They are just saying this because they have to. After all, it is better to make you think that you deserve better than to make you feel completely worthless.        

I AM TOO BUSY

You know how people say that it's not about finding time, it's just about priorities? Turns out you were never in their priority list. Your crush may not be busy with studies or career thoughts. What he or she is busy with though, is keeping you at bay and away from his or her vicinity. 

WE CAN ONLY BE FRIENDS

"Wait, so you're saying that we weren't friends all this time?" Nope, you were not. Chances are they didn't even know that you existed before you went out of your way to express your feelings towards them. Or, you guys were friends but the fact that you decided to shift into the dating gear made them realise that it's time to show you your place, that is the infamous friendzone.     

I LIKE YOU AS A SIBLING

The only thing worse than being friendzoned is being bro-zoned or sister-zoned or whatever mama, chacha, khala your love interest identifies you as. Unlike the Lannister siblings from Game of Thrones, you do not have a chance at this. You might think that being referred to as the brother or sister of your crush makes you somewhat of a close companion to them, but in reality, it is just their way of saying no politely. 

I AM NOT INTO DATING

Of course, they are not into dating. They are busy with other important things in life like binge watching Friends for the umpteenth time or just straight out procrastinating. Give it a few days or a week at best and you will eventually find out that he or she is dating your best friend or perhaps your worst enemy.   

I AM ALREADY SEEING SOMEONE

Not much to debunk here – the fault is entirely yours. Not because you didn't know that your crush wasn't single but because you didn't try hard enough to make your crush dump his or her current partner for you. Alexa, play "Somebody Else" by The 1975. 

Life is meaningless unless you had the opportunity to experience one of these reasons. It takes a lot to come up with such smart excuses, but it takes a lot more to tolerate them.
