Youth Voice of Bangladesh Holds career workshop in Chittagong

Corporate icons in a dialogue with 550 university students

Youth Voice of Bangladesh (YVB) organised its mass career workshop titled "Corpo-Route Key" with 550 students from different public and private universities at Hotel Agrabad, Chittagong on March 12. The career workshop was attended by corporate icons from six multinational companies in the country.

The key personnel from the multinational companies included Rubaba Dowla, Chief Service Officer, Airtel; Asif Touhid, Chief Procurement Officer, Grameenphone; SM Khaled, Supply Chain Director, British American Tobacco; Javed Akhter, Brand Building Director, Unilever; Hemi Hossain, Founding Director, Careers Club Australia; Emma Hart, HR Capability Specialist, Careers Club Australia. Also present were Chandan Poudyal, Careers Club Australia; M Nayeem Hossain, President, Alumni Association of North South University (AANSU) and Professor Farid A. Sobhani, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC).

The event commenced at 2:30 pm with the opening speech from the YVB Chittagong City President Munira Tareque Khondakar and ended with the closing speech from the Chairman of YVB, Barrister Tareque Akbar Khondakar. Barrister Tareque said, "This event is the first of its kind in Chittagong and I hope that YVB will be holding more such events in the upcoming months for the benefit of the students."

The speakers shared their knowledge, ideas and views regarding the ways to have a successful career in the corporate world. After each speaker's speech, the participants were given 20 minutes to ask any career-related question. One of the participants named Habib Foysal from the University of Chittagong said that he has acquired much practical knowledge from this workshop regarding his upcoming career. He also expressed that this type of workshop should be arranged at a regular basis to give proper career guidelines to the fresh graduates as well as the undergraduates.

During the event, CV booths were available from the companies that included Airtel, Unilever, Grameenphone, British American Tobacco, BRAC and Careers Club Australia. Certificates of attendance were provided to the participants of the event.

It is mentionable that YVB is one of the largest youth development organisations in Bangladesh that is working on youth leadership and awareness. Since its inception in 2013, it has arranged over 80 social events with the enthusiastic participation of young volunteers from various renowned public and private universities. Some of the recent events were: YVB Medical Camp in January 2016 treating 500 patients, YVB Winter Salvation-3 last December where more than 500 students participated in door-to-door blanket distribution, and Youth Summit last November.
