Sense of belonging between Bangladesh, India can be revealed through literature
Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran yesterday said a sense of belonging that exists between Bangladesh and India can be revealed in the form of literature.
"The post 1971 generation of Bangladeshis can get help from literature to discover the legacy and heritage (of India) and contribute to the creation of meeting of minds," he said.
Pankaj was addressing the launching ceremony of a book, "India: Beyond the Taj and the Raj", in the capital's Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).
Authored by Raana Haider and published by University Press Limited, the book is an account of the author's travels across India since the mid 1950s.
The period she covers in her book belongs to every South Asian, Pankaj said.
"When we talk about the Taj (Mahal) and the legacy of the Mughal era, we talk about the British rule in India. We do realise that this is the period of pre-1947. In that sense, she is creating and bringing to life a heritage in which we all belong," he said.
He added that the book, once read by Bangladeshis and others, will arouse curiosity and encourage them to travel across India.
IUB Vice Chancellor Prof M Omar Rahman, among others, spoke at the event.
