Amanur Rahman Khan, the lawmaker from Tangail-3 constituency, and his three brothers have been expelled from the district Awami Legaue on charges of various allegations.

Tangail district unit of AL took the decision today in an urgent meeting chaired by district AL President Fazlur Rahman Khan Faruk at Zila Parishad Auditorium, reports our correspondent.

The allegations brought against them include violation of party discipline, killing local AL leader and freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed and attempt to kill Ghatail upazila unit BCL leader Abu Sayeed Rubel, party sources said.

MP Rana and his three younger brothers--Jahidur Rahman Khan Kakon, former president of Chambers and Commerce in Tangail; Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti, former mayor of Tangail municipality and former general secretary of Tangail City Unit of AL; and Saniat Khan Bappa, former vice-president of central unit of BCL -- are among the 14 charge-sheeted accused in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed killing case.

“The decision to expel the brothers from AL district unit will be sent to the party’s central unit for final approval,” said Joaherul Islam Joaher, general secretary of district unit of AL.

He further said, “The decision to expel them from the party will declare formally after getting the approval from the central.”

Faruk killing: HC order on MP Rana’s plea tomorrow

Meanwhile, the High Court is scheduled to pass an order tomorrow on a petition filed by AL lawmaker Amanur seeking bail in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.

The bench of Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal and Justice Md Khasruzzaman set the date today after concluding hearing on the petition.

On January 18, 2013, Faruk Ahmed, then publicity secretary of Tangail district AL, was found shot dead near his College Para residence in Tangail town.

Three days into the killing, his wife Nahar Ahmed filed a murder case with Tangail Model Police Station, accusing unidentified criminals. The case was later transferred to the Detective Branch of police.

Following their arrests by the DB in August 2014, two of the suspects in the case -- Anisul Islam Raja and Mohammad Ali -- hinted at involvement of Amanur and his three brothers in the murder.

On February 3 last year, Mahfijur Rahman Ghulam of Tangail DB, investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, naming 14 people, including Amanur and his brothers.

The court accepted the charge sheet on April 6 and issued arrest warrants against 10 fugitives, including Amanur and his brothers.

Amanur surrendered to a Tangail court on September 18 last year in connection with the murder case.
