Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam no more

Ayesha Khanam, president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, passed away this morning.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad General Secretary Maleka Banu confirmed her death.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Ayesha Khanam, president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad and a heroic freedom fighter, has passed away on the morning of January 2, 2021," the Parishad said in a statement this morning.

The body has been taken to Bangladesh Mahila Parishad office around 9:20 am.

She was an active organiser of several progressive movements including the student movement of the 1960s, the mass uprising and the Liberation War.

At the end of her student life, she was dedicated to the rights of the deprived, oppressed and disenfranchised women.

"In her death, the women's movement in Bangladesh lost a guardian. We deeply mourn her death," said the Parishad.
