Tourist's body recovered from Matamuhuri river

Police recovered body of a man from the Matamuhuri river in Bandarban's Alikadam upazila today.

The deceased was identified as Sheikh Zubairul Islam, a resident of Dhalitala Pachuria village of Narail's Lohagara upazila.

The body was found on the riverbank in Alikadam, said Mirza Zahid Uddin, officer-in-charge of Alikadam Police Station.

On information, police recovered the body and brought it to the station.

He went to visit Bandarban as a tourist, the OC said.

According to locals, on June 9, a group of 33 tourists along with two guides went for a journey through the Tain canal to the remote peak of Kristong Hill, located at Alikadam-Thanchi border.

He also said during the trekking, three of them were washed away by the strong current of the canal.

Two others are still missing.

OC Mirza added that a rescue operation is ongoing in the area to find the missing persons.

However, the body was sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and legal steps are underway regarding the incident, he added.
