The residents of Bhola municipality area will get gas connection for household use from today.
Dr Hossain Mansur, chairman of Petrobangla, will inaugurate the connection at Khanka Sharif of Jainpuri Pir Saheb at noon. Lawmaker Tofail Ahmed, also member of the advisory committee of ruling Awami League, will attend the function as chief guest.
"We are happy to get our long time dream fulfilled," said Talha Talukder, standing in a long queue in front of Agrani Bank branch at Bhola for an application form to get the gas connection.
As many as 2018 application forms, each for Tk 100, were sold from August 25 to 3:00pm on August 27, said Md Hannan Khan, manager of Agrani Bank.
An expert team of Sundarban Gas Company Limited, a concern of state-run Petrobangla, is examining the 20 km main distribution line for last few days, trying to locate if there is any leakage in the line.
The company will utilise gas from the nearby Sahabajpur Gas field in Bhola where the only commercial consumer is Venture Energy Limited, a 34.5 MW gas-fired rental power plant.
