The poet in prison

Poet Shamshur Rahman still feels insecure. And his wife and son who had undergone the traumatic experience on Monday night are yet to recover from the shock.

"I haven't been out of the residence since Monday," the poet said yesterday evening, speaking to two Star journalists. "I still feel insecure."

Four armed cops from the Special Force at the police headquarters were on guard at the entrance and inside, while the septuagenarian poet were receiving friends, relatives and well-wishers at his study.

At one point, the poet's wife, Zohora Rahman, came sobbing to see Professor Khan Sarwar Murshid, one of the visitors at the time. The professor consoled her.

Some armed young men allegedly belonging to a religious fundamentalist group took an abortive attempt on the poet. His son and wife who eventually resisted the attackers received injuries.
