Gang opens fire on villagers, two killed

Two villagers were killed and at least 10 others injured when a gang of criminals opened fire at Biharia village in Khoksa upazila on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Abu Taleb, 55, son of Sadek Ali and Sariful Islam, 45, son of Atahar Ali of the village.
According to police, gangsters of Bapi group, allegedly backed by Khoksa upazila chairman, demanded Tk. 2 lakh illegal toll from businessman Ramjan Sardar a month ago.
The gang threatened Ramjan of dire consequences when he refused to pay the amount.
On Sunday night, a gang of 10/12, allegedly led by Bapi, attacked the house of Ramjan. When they tried to pick up Ramjan at gunpoint, family members cried for help.
As the neighbours rushed to the spot, the fleeing gang opened fire indiscriminately, leaving two dead on the spot and at least 10 others hit by bullets.
Injured Ramjan Sardar, 45, Sariful Islam Mondol, 40 and Jibon Ali, 25, were hospitalised.
Meanwhile, police on Sunday night arrested five people in connection with the case filed for, double murder in Khoksa upazila.
According to police, a gang of 10 to 12 belonging to an outlawed party took part in the killing.
"The arresteees belong to outlawed Gono Mukti Fouz (GMF)," said Horendranath Sarkar, officer-in-charge of  Khoksa police station.
Bapi, a top cadre of outlawed Gono Mukti Fouz (GMF) attacked the house of  Ramjan and tried to kidnap him at gunpoint, he said.
