Masum Billah, the driver of one Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus, confessed to a magistrate yesterday that he ran his vehicle over the students on July 29 in the capital, leaving two students dead and at least nine others injured.

He said he knew the consequences and yet he did not slow down the bus to get more passengers, a court official quoted Masum as telling the magistrate.

Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi recorded the statement at his chamber for over three hours, after Kazi Shariful Islam, inspector of Detective Branch of police, produced Masum before the court.

The driver was later sent to Keraniganj Central jail.

He was placed on a seven-day remand on August 1 in the case filed over the death of the two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College in Kurmitola, near the airport.

Bus owner Shahadat Hossain, the driver of another bus and two helpers were taken in police remand for questioning.
