Fearless lady catches snatcher

A woman risked her life to catch a mugger yesterday when an armed gang swooped on her in Malibagh area, reports UNB.

She grabbed of the muggers while her brother defying gunfire caught another attacker.

Shirin, 30, her brother and one-year-old daughter were travelling in a rickshaw at about 1 pm when the incident occurred.

The muggers, riding a motorcycle, waylaid the rickshaw and snatched Shirin's gold chain first, police and witnesses said.

As the muggers tried to grab her purse containing Tk 50,000, Shirin's brother, Mujibur Rahman, 28, jumped from the rickshaw and pounced on an attacker.

The robbers then fired a revolver to terrorize the victims and threw her daughter Mumu on the street.

"Shirin went to the rescue of her baby and brother and caught the other mugger who was on the motorcycle," said a witness.

Soon, local people rushed to the spot and caught the muggers.

The mob then beat up the two and set fire to the motorcycle.

Later, police arrested the muggers - Manik and Badal - from the spot and sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Shirin, wife of Zahirul Islam Ratan of West Rampura, said she risked her life because she couldn't just sit idle while her brother and only child were at risk.
