Daily Star, Prime Bank honour high achievers in O & A Level exams
The Daily Star and Prime Bank are honouring the high achievers in O & A Level examinations today.
The event began with the national anthem at around 9:40am at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center, Purbachal (Dhaka Bypass Expressway).
Verses from the Holy Quran were recited by Zikra Hafez Noor of British Columbia School; verses from the Gita were recited by Prothoma Das of Daffodil International School, Uttara; a passage from the Bible was recited by Charles David Biswas of Academia; and verses from the Tripitaka were recited by Sabyasachi Barua of A.G. Church School.
The tagline of this year's programme was "Saluting the nation builders of tomorrow".
Bobby Hajjaj, state minister for Primary and Mass Education, attended the programme as the special guest.
A tribute will be paid to Niloufer Manzur, founding principal of Sunbeams School, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to promoting quality education.
Mahfuz Anam, editor & publisher of The Daily Star, Faisal Rahman, CEO of Prime Bank PLC and Razib Mahbubul, country director for IDP Education Ltd in Bangladesh, are expected to address the students.
The awardees' parents, families, teachers, friends, and special guests also attended the event.
This year, a total of 2,545 -- 1,928 O-level and 617 A-level -- students from 121 English-medium schools across the country will be awarded at the event.
The awardees included 84 students who topped the world and 42 who topped the country in O-levels, alongside nine global toppers and 28 country toppers in A-levels.
