DIY embellishments TASSELS
Giving your home interior a personal touch can augment its beauty as well as characterise your abode the way you want. Although the markets are filled with varieties of ingenious home decorations, anything made with your own hands will always stand out amidst the shop-purchased goods. One such creative and decorative idea is handmade tassels.
Making tassels is quite easy. We often throw away old or damaged saris or dupattas, and sometimes we also dispose old fabric blankets. To make tassels, all you need are fabric srtips, ribbons or twine, and scissors, but it is important to note that the material of the fabric strips are consistent.
Cut the fabric into eight pieces about eight inches square. Along one edge of the fabric make small cuts about an inch long and three quarters of an inch apart. Then, with the cuts to start you off, tear the fabric into strips. Keep the different fabric strips grouped. For each tassel you will need about fourteen strips.
Design your tassels using a mix of all the fabrics or make them with one single type of fabric. Lay the strips in a group with the printed side facing up, and shuffle them around so that there is a pleasing combination of colours and patterns on the top.
Take a piece of ribbon and tie it around the centre of the tassel with a double knot. Fold the fabric strips in half, then take another strip and tie it around the tassel, about three quarters of an inch from the top. Tie a double knot and flatten the ends of the tie down so they merge with the tassel.
That's all you need to do to make fabulous scrappy tassels! They are not only fast and easy to make but also quite innovative. Go for fabrics which match your room's theme. Try placing them around your bags, around a vase or from a door knob. It will definitely add a touch of warmth to your regular home décor.
