Cracks on 4-storey commercial building in Narayanganj

2,000 people evacuated

Around 2,000 people have been evacuated from a four-storey commercial building in Narayanganj city as several cracks developed there Sunday afternoon.

The building, located at Deobhog area, houses nearly 200 tailor shops and other shops including departmental stores, reported our Narayanganj correspondent.

Panic gripped the people working in the tailor shops and its adjacent others when they found cracks on the building Sunday morning quoting Manjur Kader, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station.
Local sources said that around 2,000 people work in the tailor shops.

On information, Gausul Azam, upazila nirbahi officer, visited the building and ordered to evacuate the people.

The building is an old one and it would collapse in time of natural disaster as several cracks developed in it, said Gausul Azam.
