Jamaat-Shibir clashes with cops in Ctg
Activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir clashed with police, trading gunshots, in Satkania upazila of Chittagong early Wednesday.
Shot in his leg, M Iqbal, the chief of infamous Jamaat-Shibir group 'Iqbal Bahini', was arrested from the spot with four others during the 3:30am operation in Aochia Union Parishad, said police.
Three policemen were also injured, but not bullet-hit, Yamin Suman, assistant sub-inspector of Satkania Police Station, told The Daily Star.
On information that the ‘Iqbal Bahini’ was taking preparation for robbery in Churamoni village, a team from Satkania Police Station raided the area around 3:30am, our correspondent reports.
Sensing the presence of police, the people gathering there fired at police, forcing the latter to retaliate, Suman said.
Mohammad Iqbal, chief of 'Iqbal Bahini' which took part in the February 28 mayhem in the area after the verdict of war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeede, was found bullet-hit and was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital later.
The other arrestees are: Nasir, 45, Sagir Ahmed, 23, Mohammad Arif, 22 and Abu Sufian, 22, all residents of different villages Satkania upazila.
