Colourful ceremonies set to double budget
The organising committee of the 8th Bangladesh Games is preparing for a colourful opening and closing ceremonies, similar to the one of the 2010 South Asian Games, which will surely double the initial budget.
The ceremonies committee of the Bangladesh Games on Monday presented their ideas of the opening and closing ceremonies before the organising committee meeting, chaired by finance minister and organising committee chairman Abul Maal Abdul Muhith.
The Bangladesh Games are scheduled to be held from April 20-28 in Dhaka featuring 31 disciplines even though the events have not been yet.
A source close to the meeting informed that the high-ups of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) and the organising committee want to stage a colourful opening ceremony with fireworks which will be as remarkable as the opening ceremony of the SA Games held in Dhaka in 2010. The Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate the Games which will be held after a long gap of 11 years.
The plans for the colourful ceremony is forcing the organising committee to increase its budget and it might raise to Tk 22 crore instead of initial budget of Tk 12 crore.
The source also informed that the opening, which would showcase the history and cultural heritage of Bangladesh, disciplines to be played in Games, and the closing ceremony together may cost Tk 14 crore while rest of the amount would be spent for organising the Games.
The opening ceremony of the Bangladesh Games will also be projected in all the 64 districts stadiums live on giant TV screens.
