Case filed against 21 Shibir men
Twenty one leaders and activists of Rajshahi University (RU) unit pro-Jamaat Islami Chhatra Shibir, including its president and general secretary, were sued yesterday on charge of attacking two RU unit BCL leaders on August 22.
Meanwhile, a press release signed by the Shibir president, Ashraful Alam Emon, and general secretary, Saifuddin Yahia, claimed that the case was fabricated.
The injured RU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) social affairs Secretary Shawan Sarker, shot in the right hand, filed the case with Motihar Police Station.
The other victim, General Secretary Tawhid Al Hossain Tuhin, whose tendons in the left hand and right leg were cut, is now undergoing treatment in the capital's National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.
The police station Officer-in-Charge SM Abdus Sobhan refused to disclose names of the other accused, stating it might prompt them to go into hiding.
So far 16 Shibir activists have been arrested on suspicion.
