BNP calls hartal in Sirajganj for Tuesday
BNP Sirajganj unit has called a half-day hartal (shutdown) in the district for Tuesday to protest the detention of its 77 activists by law enforcers.
The hartal will start at 6:00am and continue till 1:00pm Tuesday, reports our Pabna correspondent quoting Advocate Mokaddes Ali, BNP general secretary of district unit.
Local BNP has called the hartal also demanding restoration of the caretaker government system, said the BNP leader.
He claimed that police detained 77 activists from different parts of the district during an overnight drive Sunday only to harass them politically.
However, Habibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station, said the activists were detained in connection with a case filed for attacking the house of a local Awami League leader in the town Sunday.
The activists also clashed with the law enforcers after being resisted by them, the OC claimed.
