Though the Eid holidaymakers began their journey home, there is no reports of significant traffic jams on the highways and ferry ghats so far.

Due to increased rush, the pressure of the vehicles on the west approach road of Bangabandhu Bridge increased but caused no tail back today.

Confirming the development, Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station Officer-in-charge Rawshan Yajdani said a total of 30,251 vehicles crossed the bridge in last 24 hours starting from 6:00am yesterday.

Policemen are patrolling the highway round the clock, the OC said.

Badrul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station, said due to excessive pressure, the traffic in Sayedabad, Kadda Jhayil and Pachlia areas is moving a little slower, but there is no traffic jam.

Around 800 police personnel are working to ensure normal traffic flow on the 22 kilometres highway, he added.

Meanwhile, vehicle movement at Paturia ferry ghat in Manikganj remained normal today. No rush of passengers also observed at the launch ghat, our local correspondent reported.

According to the Aricha office of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), around 7,000 vehicles usually cross the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway route during this time. This number has halved after the Padma Bridge opened.

Officials there said even if the vehicle pressure increases to 9,000, BIWTC can easily assist the vehicles to cross the route.

He also said that 238 passenger buses, 514 small vehicles, 522 trucks and 600 motorcycles crossed the Paturia-Daulatdia route waterway from 8:00pm yesterday to 6:00am today.

From this morning to noon, small vehicles were seen boarding the ferry in ghat No. 5 area of Paturia, our correspondent reports.
