Narsingdi BNP feud: JCD men vandalise vehicles
A group of suspended Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders brought out a protest rally in Narsingdi town this morning demanding immediate arrest of the district's BNP convener Khairul Kabir Khokon and others accused in the recent murders of two JCD activists.
At least three cars were vandalised by the protestors, reports our local correspondent quoting Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, officer in-charge of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station.
The rally started from Velanagar More of the district at 10:00am and ended in the Court Road where the private cars were vandalised.
Eyewitnesses said at least five unidentified persons were also injured during the commotion.
Mayen Uddin, who was the senior vice president of Narsingdi district unit JCD committee before his suspension, said, "We will continue our protest programme to ensure justice for two of our fellows who were killed by Khairul Kabir Khokon and by his fellows. We brought out the protest rally today as we came to know that Khokon is in the town."
When asked about the vandalism of cars, he refused to comment.
Khairul Kabir Khokon could not be reached by this correspondent.
OC Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, said, "Three cars were vandalised during the rally. We are going to the spot to take necessary actions."
Local JCD leaders said, on January 26 this year, the central JCD formed a five-member committee of the district with Siddiqur Rahman Nahid as president and Mehedi Hasan as general secretary.
Since then, JCD leaders and activists, who were deprived of posts in the committee, have been agitating for the cancellation of the committee.
On May 25, factional clashes injured two leaders of JCD --former district unit JCD Senior convener Sadekur Rahman and activist Ashraful Islam.
Later, the two died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital of their bullet wounds.
On May 27, Altaf Hossain, brother of deceased Sadequr Rahman filed a case with police mentioning 30 names including district BNP convener and ex MP Khairul Kabir Khokon and his wife and former reserve seat lawmaker Shirin Sultan.
Avijit Chowdhury, sub-inspector of Narsingdi Sadar Thana who is investigating the case said, "We arrested nine people over killed of two JCD men. We are trying to arrest rest of the accused."
