Gono Odhikar Parishad has demanded the cancellation of the economic zone allocation given to India, calling for the establishment of a military cantonment in Feni to safeguard Bangladesh's sovereignty.

A mass protest was held today in front of the National Press Club, where leaders from various levels of the organisation participated.

The protest was organised to oppose the allocation of an economic zone to India.

Col (retd) Mia Mashiuzzaman, convener of Gono Odhikar Parishad, accused India of betraying Bangladesh by sheltering former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He claimed that India continues to support Hasina's actions, which he described as "unacceptable to the people of Bangladesh."

Faruk Hasan, member secretary of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, criticised Hasina for "surrendering Bangladesh's independence" to India, referring to the economic zone allocation as a violation of the country's sovereignty.

Tarek Rahman, joint member secretary, also spoke at the event, stressing the importance of establishing a cantonment in Feni to protect Bangladesh's independence.

The protest was moderated by Arif Billah, office co-coordinator of the party, and was attended by several leaders including Engineer S Fahim, retired Major Abdur Rob, and others.
