Miss World Bangladesh yesterday launched a nationwide hygiene awareness campaign -- Hygiene for Health Bangladesh -- with government support to promote hygiene as a simple and effective way to prevent disease.

Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain, speaking at the launch, said hygiene remains one of the most cost-effective tools for preventing disease.

“I commend Miss World Bangladesh for using this platform to carry that message to communities across the country,” he said.

“This campaign is a reminder that public health starts with simple, everyday habits,” the minister added.

The campaign, led by Miss World Bangladesh 2026 Samanzar Sayeed, was launched at Gulshan Society Lake Park in Gulshan-2 in partnership with the Gulshan Society.

Azra Mahmood, national director of Miss World Bangladesh and founder of Azra Mahmood Talent Camp, said the initiative reflects the pageant’s “Beauty With a Purpose” philosophy, under which titleholders are encouraged to champion social causes alongside their ambassadorial roles.

Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Milton said the city corporation would support the campaign.

Gulshan Society President Barrister Omar Sadat said the partnership demonstrated how civic organisations and national platforms could work together to promote community welfare.

Shaheen Anam, executive director of Manusher Jonno Foundation, said her organisation and its partner NGOs were pleased to support Samanzar Sayeed’s advocacy campaign.

According to the organisers, the campaign will mobilise youth volunteers to promote hygiene awareness across the country through educational and community outreach programmes.

The initiative is supported by Gulshan Society, Manusher Jonno Foundation, Friendship, Chittagong Grammar School, Daffodil School, Ma Haad School & College, Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Bangladesh, Bangladesh Women Sports Federation, International Hope School Bangladesh, Square Toiletries Limited, Ispahani, Shombhob and its Humanity Foundation, Azra Mahmood Talent Camp, Persona, Radisson Blu, V-Frame, Cine Sculpture, and Concorde Garments Group, among others.

The programme concluded with the symbolic release of pigeons and biodegradable balloons and the opening of nationwide volunteer registration.

Samanzar Sayeed will represent Bangladesh at the Miss World 2026 grand finale in Nha Trang, Vietnam, on September 5, according to a press release.
