Ex-army chief Iqbal to testify against Ziaul over enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings
Former army chief Gen (retd) Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan is set to testify against Maj Gen (relieved) Ziaul Ahsan in a crimes against humanity case over more than a hundred alleged enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings committed during the Awami League regime.
Prosecutor Shyikh Mahdi confirmed the matter during a press briefing today after the court proceedings.
After hearing both sides, the International Crimes Tribunal fixed January 14 for passing its order.
During the hearing, senior advocate Munsurul Hoque Chowdhury, along with advocate Nazneen Nahar, represented Ziaul and sought his discharge, contesting the three charges brought by the prosecution.
The defence argued that the prosecution failed to place any credible evidence before the tribunal.
Earlier in the day, police produced Ziaul before the tribunal from jail, and the proceedings were held in his presence.
