DU Sports Quota: 49 athletes selected for admission

Dhaka University has selected 49 sportspersons for admission to the 2022-23 undergraduate academic session under the reintroduced sports quota.
The athletes include national men's team cricketer Towhid Hridoy, women's team cricketer Nahida Akhter, national team footballer Sheikh Morsalin, women's footballer Ritu Porna Chakma, and many others.
The DU authorities issued a notice in this regard yesterday, signed by Prof Abdul Bashir, chief coordinator of the Arts, Law and Social Sciences Unit.
Under the sports quota, the sportspersons get the opportunity to be admitted to Dhaka University without taking part in the admission test.
The notice also asked the individuals to collect subject choice form from the dean's office of the Faculty of Arts and submit it with the prescribed fee during office hours within next Wednesday.
Among other cricketers who were given the opportunity are: Ariful Islam, Prantik Nawrose Nabil, Shahriar Shakib, Mahfizul Islam, Shakib Shahriar, Ashraful Islam Siam, Nahida Akhtar, Deepa Khatun, Riya Akhtar Shikha, Mishti Rani Saha, and Halimatul Sadia.
Footballers who secured the admission are: Anisur Rahman Ziko, Sheikh Morsalin, Md. Meraj Hossain, Ritu porna Chakma, Nilufa Yeasmin Nila, and Rehena Akhter.
Other sports persons who take part in athletics, swimming, roll ball, kho kho, archery, wushu, badminton, boxing, basketball, volleyball, shooting, karate, handball, hockey, judo, and taekwon-Do were also selected.
DU authorities used to admit students under sports quota till 2003. However, in 2004, the sports quota was scrapped in the wake of criticism as irregularities had been found during admission.
In July this year, DU authorities resumed the sports quota and formed a guideline.
