22nd session of 11th parliament prorogued

The special session of parliament, which was also the 22nd session of the 11th parliament, was prorogued today after five working days.

On the eve of the prorogation yesterday, the House unanimously adopted a motion on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh National Parliament.

Sheikh Hasina, member of parliament from Gopalganj-3 constituency, placed the motion under Section-147 of the Rules of Procedure in the House on the 50th anniversary of the National Parliament.

Some 63 lawmakers took part in the discussion that lasted for 10 hours and 23 minutes.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury read out the prorogation of the president at 2:23pm.

Earlier, President Abdul Hamid addressed the House on the occasion of the 50 years of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad.

On April 7 of 1973, the first parliament had gone into the maiden sitting in independent Bangladesh.
