Violation of electoral code: 6 BCC councilor candidates fined Tk 68.5k
Mobile courts today fined six Barishal City Corporation councillor candidates a total of Tk 68,500 on charges of violating the electoral code of conduct.
The six candidates violated rules during submission of their nominations at the Election Commission office, said the mobile courts' Executive Magistrates M Rakibul Hasan, Abi Abdullah, and Moin Uddin.
However, they did not reveal the names of the candidates.
They were fined because they had gone to submit nomination papers with a contingent of supporters larger than what is allowed in the electoral code of conduct, the executive magistrates said.
Abi Abdullah said the candidates had earlier been warned in this regard . A total of 10 candidates submitted nominations for the mayoral post, 146 for general councilor post, and 42 for the reserved councilor posts, according to the Election Commission's Barishal office.
