Schedule for polls likely in December

Following Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus' remarks on the election date and issuing a letter to the Election Commission in this regard, an election commissioner last night said the EC is prepared to hold the national parliamentary election in February and the schedule could be announced in December.
Speaking to The Daily Star around 9:00pm, Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud said, "We are prepared to hold the 13th national parliamentary election in the first half of February, before the upcoming Ramadan."
His comments came as an immediate reaction to the chief adviser announcement regarding the election timeframe in his address to the nation yesterday.
Masud said, "We are ready to hold the election. We will announce the schedule 50 to 60 days prior to the election day. Based on that, the schedule may be announced in December."
