Ex-soldier among 3 held for 'plotting subversive activities': ISPR

A dismissed soldier and two of his associates were arrested today for allegedly plotting subversive activities and attempting to incite chaos, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press statement.
According to the statement, Naimul Islam had been "planning subversive activities along with several other dismissed or released army personnel since August 5, 2024. He delivered provocative speeches in different media outlets, violating discipline.
"As part of the plan, he was preparing to carry out major subversive activities in the name of a protest rally outside the Dhaka Cantonment gate on May 18."
The ISPR statement also read, "To dissuade him from such activities, an army team approached Naimul around 2:00pm today in the Bot Tola Bazar area of Khilkhet. At that time, he and some of his associates launched a sudden attack with local weapons on an army man."
A patrol team from a nearby army camp rushed to the scene and detained Naimul along with two of his accomplices.
The ISPR also said Naimul had been dismissed from service for demanding dowry from his wife, subjecting her to physical and mental abuse, and engaging in multiple activities that violated military discipline.
Legal proceedings against him are underway, the statement added.
