Two workers missing as bulk carrier sinks in Netrakona's Dhalai river

Two workers went missing early today after a sand-carrying bulk carrier sank in the Dhalai river in Mohanganj upazila of Netrokona.
They are Md Zia, 20, and Md Maruf, 24, residents of Purbadhala upazila, said Mohanganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Aminul Islam.
The diving team of the Fire Service and Civil Defence could not locate them till the filing of this report as of 4:00pm.
The incident occurred around 3:00 am near Chhechhrakhali Bazar area of the Dhalai river in Mohanganj.
According to Kamruzzaman Sumon, station officer of Mohanganj Fire Service, the vessel was en route from Purbadhala to the Chhechhrakhali area of Mohanganj when it sank due to a strong current in the river.
Of the three workers on board, one managed to swim ashore, but the other two went missing.
A team of divers from Mymensingh began search and rescue operations this morning after receiving the news.
However, continuous heavy rain and a strong current in the river were hampering rescue efforts, fire officials said.
Mohanganj Fire Service confirmed that the rescue operations were ongoing.
