2 children drown in a Faridpur pond

Two children died by drowning in a pond at Ramkantapur in Saltha upazila of Fairdpur this morning.

The deceased were identified as Tanha Aktar, 7, and her five-year-old brother Md Abu Talha.

They were children of Sumon Sheikh of Nowpara village in Madhukhali upazila.

Quoting family members, Boalmari Police Station chief Mahmudul Hasan said the incident took place when Mita Begum along with her children visited her father's house two days after the Eid-ul-Azha.

They went to take bath in the pond and Talha accidentally slipped into it while bathing. Tanha jumped to save him, but she also drowned.

When a neighbour saw the two in the pond, he called the locals.

The locals rushed to the spot and pulled them out of the water, immediately taking them to the Boalmari Upazila Health Complex.

Shakila Azad, a medical officer of Boalmari Upazila Health Complex, said both children had died before they were taken to the hospital.
