ABAR BYOMKESH
Plot:
Byomkesh makes his acquaintance with several Bengali inhabitants from the local community at Dooars like. Strange incident is going on at Dooars. A certain group photo is getting stolen from all who were in the photograph. Byomkesh, with Ajit smells a mystery in the air and jumps into investigating the case.
Review:
Byomkesh is the Sherlock of Bengali literature. He has his own Dr. Watson in the form of Ajit. When a movie is narrated, it feels like reading a book–many points need not to be explained. Byomkesh's sidekick Ajit narrates the story making the movie like a novel.
The storyline is simple–it doesn't even try to be over-complicated. Even the detective hero is a simple married man arguing with his wife on small matters like; smoking too much. The movie deals with many characters; yet it manages to introduce them to the viewers with enough details. It doesn't confuse the viewer with over introducing each character. They know just enough much information needed to be known.
Shot in beautiful backdrop, the movie makes the viewer feel that they are also with Byomkesh. Camera doesn't shy off showing the beauty of the landscape. No matter how complicated it is, deceiving the viewer is a cheap shot. It is found in many other movies of similar genre. Anjan Dutta made the same mistake few times. It is true that, most would not be able to tell how the story would end; yet, Anjan could've left it simple as it started with. The ending of the movie is a bit disappointing. The motive of the antagonist feels a bit flimsy. Overall, it is an entertaining movie for all to enjoy. If one is looking to watch a Bengali movie which is not of the same old story, I highly recommend others to watch this.
