HC rejects 3 petitions of Shamim Osman

The High Court (HC) yesterday rejected three petitions filed by former Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman seeking directions not to harass or arrest him in three separate cases filed by the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) and National Board of Revenue (NBR).
After hearing the petitions, an HC bench of Justice ABM Khairul Haque and Justice Md Abdul Hye passed the orders.
Petitioner's counsel Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder told newsmen that the HC rejected the petitions considering that those were not submitted to the court since the HC earlier stayed the proceedings of the cases.
Sources said Shamim Osman was sentenced to imprisonment for different terms in all three cases -- one was filed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on charge of tax evasion and two others were filed by the ACC on charges of amassing illegal wealth and of not submitting wealth statement to the ACC.
SHEIKH HELALUDDIN
Former AL lawmaker Sheikh Helaluddin yesterday filed a petition with the High Court for quashing proceedings against him in a corruption case filed by ACC on charge of amassing illegal wealth.
The HC bench of Justice Muzammel Hossain and Justice Afzal Hossain Ahmed may hear the petition today.
Both Shamim Osman and Sheikh Helaluddin appeared before the High Court for filing the petitions.
