ACC okays filing of 2 graft cases

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday approved filing of separate cases against former BRTC chairman Taimur Alam Khandaker and Awami League (AL) presidium member Kazi Zafarullah's son Kazi Raihan Zafar for amassing wealth illegally and hiding information of their assets.
The ACC also forwarded 70 more applications to the Truth and Accountability Commission (Tac) following appeals from the accused for making voluntary disclosure about their ill-gotten wealth before the Tac.
ACC director general of special investigation and enquiry told reporters about the commission's decisions at a press briefing yesterday afternoon.
It (ACC) will file the case against Taimur Alam Khandaker on charge of amassing Tk 2.07 crore beyond his known sources of income.
Kazi Raihan Zafar will be sued for amassing Tk 88.87 lakh beyond his known sources of income and concealing information about wealth worth Tk 44 lakh in the statement submitted to the ACC.
With the 70 applications, the ACC has so far forwarded 283 graft-accused to the Tac.
Meanwhile, the ACC yesterday also approved submission of two charge sheets against four people including a surveyor of settlement office in Gaibandha.
