Make admin neutral for fair polls
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday demanded that the government withdraw officials leaning to a certain political party from key positions to make the administration neutral.
The former premier also asked the government to prove its neutrality by creating a congenial atmosphere suitable for election without any delay.
Addressing a group of agriculturists at a closed-door meeting at her Gulshan office, Khaleda said, "We want to participate in the election but the congenial atmosphere for the election is yet to be created."
The BNP chief said, "During the talks, the government agreed to realise six of our seven demands but those demands are yet to be implemented."
Khaleda demanded that the government lift the Emergency Power Rules immediately, defer the upazila polls and make the administration neutral by removing officials who are known for supporting a certain political party. She, however, did not mention the name of that party.
"The present caretaker government has no accountability to people as they are not an elected government," she said, adding, "As a result crises have arisen in all sectors, including agriculture, food and economics.
"It is now imperative to bring an elected government to save the country from this situation," she added.
Khaleda called on the people to resist through the election and movement the conspiracies to keep them in a sorry state.
BNP vice-presidents MK Anwar and Sarwari Rahman also addressed the meeting, said a party press release.
