Ban Jamaat, try war criminals
Speakers at a meeting here yesterday demanded a ban politics by anti- liberation forces including Jamaat-e-Islami and trial of war criminals.
They said Jamaat is the creator and mentor of all Islamist militant groups responsible for violence and bomb blasts in the country in the name of Islam.
The meeting was organised by Khagrachhari district Awami league at its Pankhaiya Para party office in the hill town. District AL president Zatindra Lal Tripura was in the chair.
The speakers alleged that Jamaat leaders sheltered militants of Jamaatul Mujahideen (JMB), which tried to brand Bangladesh a failed state by creating terror to fish in troubled waters.
The militants are regrouping again in different areas including the hill districts under different names. But they are all sheltered and organized by Jamaat, they claimed.
Demanding trial of war criminals, the speakers said they killed numerous people during the Liberation War, which can not go unpunished.
Now rehabilitated politically and socially, they are trying to capture state power, the speakers said.
They blamed a major party for rehabilitating Jamaat in politics. Islamist militant gangs like JMB, HUJI, Allaher Dal and many other outfits started their militant activities during the recent rule of the party.
They became well organised under the protection of parties in power and are now conspiring to create another unstable situation in the country to fish in troubled waters.
The speakers said raw criminals should be tried to establish rule of law and honour the spirit of the Liberation War.
They also criticised the local police administration as the case field with Sadar police station against JMB cadres for bomb blasts is yet to probed and disposed of.
Among other, district AL secretary Mohammad Zahedul Alam, organizing secretary Mongkaching Chowdhury, Jubo League convener Rafiqul Alam, Chhatra League president Mongshiprue Chowdhury Apu and secretary Didarul Alam spoke at the meeting.
The discussion was followed by an Iftar party attended by several hundred AL men and local civil society members.
