Today, TV viewers can have their pick of entertainment from a host of satellite channels. A group of talented people are behind such programmes. In their ranks is Jahangir Chowdhury, who works for ntv as a programme producer. At present he is producing ntv's daily programme Aajker Shokal and the fortnightly talk show Shamparko.
Jahangir began working for ntv in 2003. His programmes have been well appreciated over the years. He has also produced programmes on special occasions like Eid, other national holidays and ntv's anniversary. Jahangir points to the success of these special programmes such as the one on May Day, titled Konthey Aamar. Another such programme is Falguner Padabali on this year's Pahela Falgun.
Jahangir's first programme for ntv was the daily programme Shubho Shondhya. He pulls out all the stops to ensure the success of the programmes. In his words, "I take pains on sets because good set design adds to the appeal of a programme."
About the fortnightly talk show Shamparko, Jahangir says, "In Shamparko we zero in on familial relationships. In each episode we invite a celebrity along with his/her family members. The main point is to find what role the family played in his/her success."
While his profession is inspiring, Jahangir says there are challenges along the way. According to him, "When someone works as a programme producer, (s)he has to be up to date in terms of ideas and ideas do not come right away often. Sometimes we can not implement projects due to lack of timely sponsorship."
On the other hand, he finds inspiration from his work because it is a kind of social commitment to him. Jahangir says, "As a cultural activist (member of Udichi Shilpi Goshthi) I always want to do something for the society. As a programme producer I think I have a chance to work towards that goal."
Jahangir completed his Masters from the Department of Drama and Dramatics, Jahangirnagar University.
