Abahani meet Brothers in futsal final
Abahani walked into the Citycell Futsal competition final after Mohammedan Sporting Club forfeited the first semifinal against their archrivals yesterday.
Abahani meet Brothers Union in today's final, which kicks off at 3 pm at the Woodenfloor Gymnasium.
Mohammedan, who won the Federation Cup last week, walked out midway through their group finale against Brothers on Saturday following on-the-pitch fiasco and decided not to play further in the tournament.
They had sent a letter, confirming they would not play, on the same night to the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), which had already declared Brothers 2-0 winners.
Federation Cup's losing finalists Abahani, who have shown great form in the first ever tournament of football's indoor version in the country, opted to play a warm-up match after Mohammedan did not turn up.
The second semifinal, however, was as exciting as it could get and Brothers had to come from behind twice to edge Rahmatganj 3-2 with a brace from Abdullah Parvez.
Rahmatganj, despite conceding a number of goals in the group matches, seemed to get along with the new format of the game and gave their mighty opponents a run for their money.
Zakir and Jahangir scored for the old-Dhaka outfit in the 16 and 22 minutes but Parvez equalised on both occasions with strikes in 20 and 24 minutes before Tapu slotted a 33rd minute winner.
BFF president Kazi Salahuddin will distribute trophies after the final as chief guest.
