The 32nd death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was observed across the country yesterday with due respect.
Nazrul, popularly known as Bidrohi Kabi, through his powerful poems had inspired the people to fight against all kinds of odds and injustice and repression during the colonial rule.
Nazrul's songs and poems were also a great source of inspiration for the freedom fighters during the country's liberation war in 1971.
On August 27, 1976, the poet passed away at the age of 77 after suffering from a long ailment.
Dhaka University authorities observed the death anniversary of the rebel poet with due respect.
Students, teachers and employees, led by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AFM Yusuf Haidar, visited the mazar of the poet beside the central mosque and placed wreaths in the morning.
Duta members also placed wreaths at the grave of the poet. Family members of the poet laid wreaths at the mazar and prayed for his salvation.
Later, a discussion was also organised on the mazar premises to mark the day.
