DNC inspector, 2 staff injured by drug peddlers
An inspector and two staffs of Directorate of Narcotics Control (DNC) office in the district were hurt in an attack by a gang of drug peddlers at Terokonia village under Baliadangi upazila on Friday afternoon.
Officer in-charge of Baliadangi police station Shamim Hossain told this correspondent over cell phone that a three-member plainclothes team of DNC went to the village to investigate a drug peddling case, filed with Baliadangi police station on 27 October.
When the members of the team reached in front of the house of Md. Shahajot, 30, son of Tobiruddin, an accused in the case, a gang of drug peddlers attacked them with sticks and iron rods leaving inspector Md. Moniruzzaman, office staffs Md. Rasel and Ashok Kumer injured.
Theywere treated at Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.
Moniruzzaman filed a case with Baliadangi police station in the evening accusing six people. They are Md. Dabirul Islam, 40, son of Mozibor Rahman, Md. Nazrul Islam, 35, son of Nazimuddin, Rezaul Karim, 21, son of Azizur Rahman, Pier Ali, 20, son of Md. Nazrul, Md. Farid, 21, son of Abdul Hakim and Somila Begum, 35, wife of Dabirul Islam of Terokonia village.
Of the accused, police arrested Rezaul Karim, 21, on the same night.
In Manikganj, police recovered 24 kilograms of hemp from the houses of Tara Mia and Rafaz Uddin of Chandir Char village in Sadar upazila early yesterday.
Police held Nargis Akter, 23, daughter of Tara Mia and Rina Begum, 40, wife of Rafaz Uddin as the male members of the two families fled the scene, reports our correspondent.
Officer in charge (OC) of Manikganj Sadar police station Mozammel Hoque said, a team led by assistant sub-inspector Md. Khairuzzaman went to the house of drug peddler Tara Mia at around 1:30 am and found six kilograms of hemp and held Tara Mia's daughter Nargis Akter.
Later, the team raided the house of Rafaz Uddin and recovered 18 kilograms of hemp from the house. They held Rafaz Uddin's wife Rina Begum.
