Hearing adjourned for 10 times
A Dhaka court yesterday adjourned the hearing on charge framing against detained Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee in connection with a tax evasion case for eight days and warned that it would not extend the time anymore.
The proceedings of the case have been adjourned till August 25.
Judge Mohammad Mozammel Hossain of the Special Judge's Court-3 said the time will not be extended any more as it has already adjourned the hearing for10 times.
The judge passed the order after Sayedee's lawyer Abdur Razzak submitted a petition seeking adjournment of the hearing.
In the petition, Razzak said they had earlier filed a writ petition with the High Court (HC) challenging the legality of the case.
After the hearing, the HC issued a rule upon the government to explain why the proceedings of the case should not be declared illegal.
But the hearing on the rule is now pending for hearing. So, they prayed for adjournment of the hearing, the lawyer said.
The court yesterday also told the defence lawyer that it will frame charge against Sayedee, if they fail to submit any HC order by August 25.
On the other hand, Additional Public Prosecutor Shah Alam Talukder appealed to the court for framing charge against the accused as the defence failed to submit any HC order.
