African tie in London cancelled
A friendly between Ghana and Nigeria due to take place in London has been called off following widespread rioting in the British capital, it was confirmed Tuesday.
A statement on the Ghana Football Association website confirmed the match, due to take place at Watford's Vicarage Road stadium, had been cancelled in light of violence in London.
"Ghana's international fixture with Nigeria at Vicarage Road Stadium has been called off," the GFA statement said.
"Following the events in London, the Ghana Football Association delegation with the team were this afternoon informed of the decision by the match organisers.
"The game has been called off following widespread unrest in certain parts of London and England."
England's FA had earlier confirmed the postponement of England's friendly with the Netherlands scheduled for Wednesday.
Several other League Cup matches due to take place in London on Tuesday were also postponed.
