Aug 21 probe

CID seeks two more months

The Criminal Investigation Department yesterday sought two more months to submit the probe report in one of the two August 21 grenade attack cases.
Special Police Super of CID Abdul Kahar Akand, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a petition with a Dhaka court seeking the time as he could not complete the investigation in due time.
Judge Fozila Begum of Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court will hear the petition today.
The CID has been given eight months in three phases to complete the investigation.
The other case filed under the explosives substances act is pending with the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court. On March 4, Judge ANM Bashir Ullah of the court gave the CID three more months to submit the probe report of the case.
On August 3 last year, a Dhaka court ordered the inspector general of police to reinvestigate the cases and submit its probe reports within two months after identifying the persons who had procured and supplied the grenades used in the carnage of August 21, 2004.
