Actor Apurba and his guy-next-door charm

Some adore him for his boyish looks, others respect him for his manly mannerisms. Man or boy, model or actor -- the versatile Ziaul Faruq Apurba is on the move both on the small screen and off it. The Daily Star explores the many facets of this star. Lately Apurba has been pretty busy. Hard to believe that his mother used to have a hard time getting him out of bed in the mornings. Things are different today. As Apurba says, "Now I barely sleep. It's hours of shooting, shooting and shooting... work, work, and work." "Now the media is my passion, my profession. The indolent addabaaj boy is now grown up with many responsibilities." What is Apurba busy with currently? "Many things! There are two daily soaps, 'Ochena Manush' on ATN Bangla and 'Gulshan Avenue' on Banglavision. He also appears in plays on Rtv and Channel i respectively. Now he has his hands full with an upcoming serial-'Joto Durey Jai' on Banglavision, which is a remake of a 1984 superhit play. He is also working on 'Metamorphosis', 'Shikari', 'Bagh Putul', 'Khunshuti', 'Megh', 'Ashchorjo Ek Raater Golpo' (written by Imdadul Haq Milon and directed by Chayanika Chowdhury) and 'Nebha Deep' by Ferdous Hossain Rana for the coming Valentine's Day." "I was busy last Ramzan so for Eid there were only four or five TV plays. Usually I have around 19/20 plays aired on Eid. So some people thought that Apurba is closing it off. However that was short-lived. I did return, with a lot more roles and more energy," says the actor. "Although I was a newcomer, my first was a mega serial, starring Hillol and Tinni. You can say I got it easy from the beginning, as I started out with renowned directors, writers and co-stars. "I believe one should utilise the opportunities that come one's way. I thank God for blessing me in each step. I hit all the right places at the right times. My thoughts, works took shape and an individual character, who people know as Apurba, whether in the persona of the romantic actor or otherwise, took form. "From the beginning I have tried my best to be introspective. I do think and try to find out what could have been done better, and what needs more attention." Memorable moments: I was shopping and as I was coming out of a store, a girl saw me and exclaimed, "Aren't you Apurba?" Then and there she fainted and people came up to her rescue. I thought it wise to leave. The other incident was rather painful. I was driving when all of a sudden I started feeling sick. I had to pull over and got out of the car. I was curling up and about to pass out when some people came over and took me to a doctor. However, the unfortunate part was that when I was at the doctor's, no one came to my aid, as there was a big crowd around me. When a nurse asked them to leave, the crowd got infuriated and said that I had too much attitude! They disregarded the fact that I needed medical attention immediately and they were blocking that.
