Tremor jolts country
A moderate tremor measuring 5.7 on the Richter Scale was felt in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Feni and Khagrachhari districts yesterday.
The quake was felt at 4:01:52pm in the districts and their adjoining areas, said Mohammad Shahidul Islam, an official of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
There were no immediate reports of casualties and damage across the country.
The epicentre of the tremor was near India-Myanmar bordering region and 416km east from the Dhaka Seismic Centre at Agargaon.
Our Rajshahi correspondent reports: Residents of Rajshahi felt the moderate tremor that lasted for three or four seconds but no casualty was reported immediately after the tremor.
People of Feni became panicked during the tremor, which was lasted for two to three seconds. However, no report of casualty was found from the district, reports our Feni correspondent.
Our Sylhet correspondent reports: A mild tremor was experienced in Sylhet region yesterday afternoon.
An official in the regional Seismic Observatory, Sylhet told the Daily Star the tremor of 5.7 Richter Scale was felt at 4:01pm.
However, no casualty was reported in the region.
