GBB Power of Bogra big gas bill defaulter

Bogra-based private power generation company GBB Power Ltd has kept unpaid Tk 3.29 crore bills for gas taken from Pashchimanchal Gas Company Limited (PGCL) during May to September this year.
GBB Power Limited consumed gas worth Tk 5.26 crore including surcharge from May to September to generate power for supplying to the national grid but the said amount has remained unpaid, said sources at PGCL accounts division.
According to agreement, GBB Power Limited has to pay gas bills within 45 days of receiving the bill from PGCL authority that supplies gas to GBB Power Limited to generate power for supply to the national grid, PGCL sources said.
But GBB Power Ltd never paid gas bills properly as per agreement since its starting operation in April 2008, a senior PGCL officer said.
Contacted over cell phone, GBB Power Limited Managing Director (MD) engineer Fauzal Akbar recently said that the company has failed to pay the gas bills to PGCL properly as they are yet to receive more than Tk 6 crore as electricity bills from Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
Asked about non-payment of electricity bills to GBB Power Limited, a few BPWD officials claimed that 'maximum' arrear bills of GBB Power Limited has already been paid.
They, however, did not answer when asked about the amount of bills paid and payment dates.
A senior PGCL officer told The Daily Star that GBB Power Ltd never paid gas bills properly as per agreement since its starting operation in April 2008.
Earlier GBB authority was asked to pay total arrear gas bills and warned of gas supply suspension but the company ignored the notice and informed PGCL authority that the total arrear bills will be paid after receiving arrear electricity bills from BPDB, PGCL sources said.
