Freight train derails in Jamalpur
The engine of a freight train derailed near Sharitpur in Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon, disrupting communication on Dhaka-Chittagong route for hours.
Railway sources said the Jagannathghat-bound freight train from Chittagong veered off the track in between Jamalpur and Nandina railway station at about 1:30pm due to poor condition of the railway track.
However, none was reported injured in the accident.
About half a dozen inter-city and local trains got stranded on both sides of the spot, causing immense sufferings to the passengers.
A rescue train from Mymensingh rushed to the spot and started salvage operation at about 5:00pm.
