Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali smokes on the stage of a programme at the BGB Public School & College in Sylhet city yesterday. Not only did he set a bad example by smoking in front of hundreds of young children, parents and teachers, he also violated the law on smoking in public, a punishable offence.

A day after smoking in public during a programme in Sylhet, Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali today apologised.
The minister expressed his regret by posting a four-line Bangla write-up on his Facebook status.
When our Moulvibazar correspondent contacted with the minister, he said, "Nobody alerted me that I should not smoke there."
Earlier around 11:00am, the minister posted a status on his Facebook page saying that the photographs published in different dailies showing him smoking in public embarrassed him.
The minister was attending a programme at the BGB Public School and College in Sylhet city yesterday.
In his post, he said, "I am not denying that fact that I am a chain-smoker. But it was not right to puff a cigarette in a public place."
"I apologise for my mistake, which I have done unconsciously. I will not repeat it," the minister added.
