EMK Cinema Nights: Whale Riders

'Whale Rider' is a film about a rejected leader. Paikea is the only surviving child of a chief. Her twin, the future chief, died at birth along with his mother. Her father Porourangi names her after Paikea, the legendary whale rider who brought their people to New Zealand eons ago.
The spiritual law requires that the banner is passed from first son to first son on through the line. Thus, other possibilities, Paikea's uncle (a second son) and Paikea, will not fulfill the law. Directed and written by Niki Caro. Runtime: 1 hr. 45 min. The screening will be followed by a discussion conducted by noted actress Naila Azad Nupur. The event is free for all. Passes will be available at EMK Center before the screening.
Understanding Classical Dance by Sharmila Banerjee. Chapter Four: Odissi

Odissi, also known as Orissi, is one of the eight classical dance forms of India. It originates from the state of Odisha, in eastern India. It is the oldest surviving dance form of India on the basis of archaeological evidences.
The demonstration offered by Sharmila Banerjee is part of a series on Indian dance forms.

2015 Dhaka Comedy Festival

In the name of... (A photography exhibition)

3 March, 2015 was the second anniversary of "Amra". To mark this event a week long photography exhibition has been arranged. The exhibition will contain photographs of devastation, sorrow, anger and frustration of the victims of communal attacks. These are photographs taken by the members of Amra.
The theme of the exhibition is communal violence in Bangladesh. Every community of Bangladesh has encountered communal violence in one form or another. Idols of gods and goddesses were beheaded, idols of Buddha were dismantled, the holy Qur'an was burnt, etc.
The exhibition tries to uphold the spirit of solidarity shared between people of different religions in the country.
Lights & Shadows - Workshop on light design

Studio Lorenzo presents a ten-day workshop on light design. This workshop focuses on teaching light design for fashion, glamour, indoor, outdoor and wedding photography. Instructors include Paul David Barikder, Anwar Hossain, Aminur Rahman Azam, Razibul Hossain and Farhan Ahmed. Classes will be held on Fridays and Saturdays. Classes commence from 20 March, 2015.
